At The Learning Tree ABA, we don’t just “do therapy”—we meet your child where they are. Literally.
That means therapy doesn’t only happen at a table with flashcards. It happens on the floor with building blocks, at the sink during hand-washing, or in the backyard chasing bubbles. It happens in the spaces and moments that are already part of your child’s world—because that’s where the most meaningful learning takes place.
You may hear our team talk about something called NET, or Natural Environment Teaching. But what does that really mean?
What Is NET?
Natural Environment Teaching is an evidence-based approach that uses your child’s everyday surroundings and routines as the setting for learning new skills. Rather than removing a child from their environment to teach something in isolation, NET builds learning opportunities into naturally occurring activities—turning daily life into powerful moments for growth.
These “teachable moments” can look like:
🎂 Mixing ingredients while baking = fine motor development and following directions
🧼 Washing hands after play = building independence in self-care
🗣️ Requesting a toy = developing expressive communication
🧩 Taking turns with a sibling = growing social and play skills
NET isn’t just about checking off goals—it’s about helping your child thrive in their world, using the people, objects, and routines that are most familiar and motivating to them.
Why Does It Matter?
When learning feels natural, it sticks.
Children are more engaged and more likely to generalize skills when they’re taught in context. A child who learns to ask for help during a game of hide-and-seek is more likely to ask for help in other real-world situations, too. That’s the power of NET: learning that transfers beyond the therapy session and into everyday life.
It also builds trust. By joining your child in their environment—in their favorite games, snacks, and routines—we form stronger connections and create a sense of safety and joy around learning.
The Learning Tree ABA Approach
At The Learning Tree ABA, NET is one of the many ways we tailor our therapy to each unique child and family. No sterile drills. No one-size-fits-all plans. Just real, research-backed support rooted in compassion, play, and purpose.
We believe therapy should feel like something your child wants to be part of—because when a child is engaged, supported, and having fun, incredible growth happens.
If you’ve ever wondered what therapy looks like at The Learning Tree, picture this:
- A therapist modeling handwashing at the sink while giggling over bubbles
- A shared laugh while building a block tower together
- A child proudly asking, “More, please!” during snack time
- A calm, connected moment on the living room floor, learning to take turns
That’s NET. That’s what we do. And we’re honored to be part of your child’s journey.
